Joint PD meeting at Zuyd: inspiring exchange between two domains
On November 18, a joint PD meeting took at place at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. Zuyd participates in the Professional Doctorate pilot with four candidates in two domains: Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality, and Arts + Creative. The four candidates presented their projects, followed by an update by national projectleader Frank van der Zwan-Scholtz (Vereniging Hogescholen) and a discussion about challenges and next steps.
The presentations and following dialogue showed the diversity of what the PD can be within different domains. Topics ranged from exploring how to improve the hospitaility and accesibility of local municipalities (Esther Sarpathie), developing tools and strategies for hotel chains to become sustainble (Armand Odekerken), to re-discovering Persian cultural heritage in digital games (Sina Seifee), and exploring less precarious and more sustainble contemporary art exhibitions (Céline Mathieu). During short interviews, the PD candidates were asked to reflect on the ways they engege with the four roles of the PD, which led to a lively discussion on the added value of the PD – for both the academic landscape and the involved professional fields. Saskia Brand-Gruwel (executive board Zuyd) expressed her appreciation of the PD pilot and her wish that it becomes an integral part of the learning trajectory in applied sciences.
